The above is a rear tyre for the (pre-LC) R1200GSA.
And for positive proof that miracles still do happen, how about a TKC-80 110/80/19 for the front?
Thanks in advance!
I got my last set of Karoo 3's at Trac-Mac
I was chatting to Warren Ellwood at the GS Trophy Qualifier: apparently his supplier/company will be bringing in tons of TKC 80 and driving the price down also. Perhaps give him a call.
One of our bigger clients, SA Tyre Distributors, has just won the distribution rights for Continental Motorcycle tyre in South Africa. So yes, the TKC range and others are coming back, big time as well.
They are probably the biggest independent tyre importer and distributor in South Africa, have a huge distribution system through our warehouses and logistic network, and are not scared to order and keep big volumes of stock.
However, the first orders are only being placed at the moment, so realistically, tyres are 6 weeks away.
I am not sure how the pricing will be, but I expect it to be competitive, they have really done their home work on this project.
Thanks Hugh, Charles & Warren, for your responses.
I should have mentioned that I had already polled Donford, Trac-Mac & Flying Brick before I made the original post.
It's good to know that TKC will be back, although it will be too late for my immediate needs.
Miracles, you say?!
Hmmnn, we HAVE a Karoo 3 150/70/17 IN STOCK!
abd we have a Capra X 110/80/90 in stock, too! Near-indistinguishable for a TKC 80, was imported due to TKC's temporary absence from the market.
So, unsure when you rang, but we CAN help!
Cheers, Chris & Team
Music to my ears - TKC's rock (and mud , and sand, and gravel, oh and tar........... )
Cecil,
I think Donford Stellenbosh had a few last time I was there - worth a call.
Cecil,
I bought my Karoo's, three weeks ago at Donford SB, they were the best price around at the time.
Andy.
Donford STB was out of any Metzeler K3 stock as of last Thursday (7th Apr).
@Chris: I didn't call Flying Brick, I checked your online store, which still does not list the 150/70/17, only a 120/70/19 and 110/80/19. I'll give you a call in the morning.
I've had offers of:
I am not keen, based on prior experience, on either the E07 or the K60. I have zero experience with any of the others so, assuming that I don't land either of my tyres of choice, I am leaning towards the Mitas E10 in front and the Capra-X at the back.
Why? For no good reason!
I am mindful of a quote, attributed to Peter Drucker, which I came across recently:
"People who don't take risks generally make about two big mistakes a year. People who do take risks generally make about two big mistakes a year."

ok, I understand why you might think we would not have stock - truth is, product is arriving faster than we can update the website, so always best - IF you can, to PHONE in after perusing the website to double-check that we have not received new - previously not stocked - product in!
Thanks, Chris & Team

Today I fitted a Mitas E10 and Capra-X, at the front and rear respectively, for a roughly 4500km round trip to the land of the brave. About a third of the route will be on the dreaded black stuff. The remainder is expected to be regulation gravel with the odd sprinkling and/or bunker and/or sandpit for variety. I intend to share my views on the tyres at the end of the trip.
Travel safe
Thank you Rene, I'll do my best

So I didn't report back at the end of the trip, because it didn't end as planned , but that's a story for another day .
Below are photographs of the two tyres as they looked on 19 April 2016 ...

...and today (16 Oct 2016)

I have been extremely happy with both tyres in all the conditions (tar, off-road, sand, wet, dry, technical & combinations of same) I have been exposed to these last few months.
I think durability of both tyres are also on par with the TKC-80 and Karoo-3.
I fitted the TKC80 's to my bike for the Namibia trip. It was a mixture of many different surfaces. I am extremely happy with their performance on any surface. I enjoy them on tar and really loved them off road.I bought them at Flying Brick.
Travel safely Mwendo
